Families of Autistic kids

Families of Autistic Kids

I posted this on the AS message board which I have been using for over a year. One of the members told me to post this here. Glad to find a new site. Please read the message

I am a sad today and a bit confused. I think it is because I am an idealist and think that people do want to change the world and make it a better place.

Since my son was diagnosed with Autism 5 years ago I have made it my mission to make the world a better place for people and children with Autism. I have had numerous articles in local papers for awareness and I don't sugar coat anything. I am on two boards to help special need children and adults with inclusion and recreation. I am starting a high school volunteer program to be buddies with special need student in my community that will start in January. I just got two organizations together to start a theater class for children with special needs this fall. I harassed my school district so much they have a new autism program this fall. My husband and I started our own buyer broker real estate firm after or son was diagnosed because we wanted to spent as much time as we could with him. I try to hire parents with special needs children and we bend over back wards to help special need families. As you can see I have no time to really do anything- but I still find the energy because I know I can make a difference.

So I decide to try the AMEX contest again with my dream project to help the most people with Autism. A real program for schools that can work!
I feel like no one cares, and that every other group community can get their group to vote- but not this community. Are there people who care?

PLEASE take two minutes and nominate the project. YOU DO NOT NEED AN AMEX card right now. please ask your Friends and family to vote as well. Please pass it on to anyone you know.

I am an idealist with a dream and I can not do it alone. I want the Autism community come together to help themeselves.

Yes, that is my son and everyday he checks the votes- he loves numbers and wonders why people are not voting. He jumps and claps and yes flaps everytime the number goes up! I really need help getting the word out. Thanks for letting me get this off my back. I stay up at night and wonder why people don't seem to care like me. I know some of you do so show your support!
Thanks,
Sharon

Glad you made it over here Sharon! Your son is beautiful!

It was really easy to sign up as a guest member to nominate on your project there AND it is for a very good cause.
I'll be sure to forward this to my family & friends as well.

All the best to you and your family

CamJam,
Thanks so much. Last year my friend Debra did the project and I was her side kick. We lost going to the top 5 by 13 votes. It was a total grass roots Mom's mission. I told her I would do it this year. She is my side kick trying to help get votes.
Your kids are adorable as well! Thanks for helping spread the word. Wish us luck and cross your fingers to see if we make the top 25 this year. Thanks for the vote-Quinn will be clapping in the morning- which will make my day.

Whohoo!!!! thank you for sharing this site..awareness is what WE need, as a group we are all bound because of these very special children and young adults..there need to be more programs out there than there is currently available for our kids....GREAT JOB SHARON......I too am getting into more public speaking about autism myself with different groups in my area....My son, Michael is now 17 years old so I do understand the emotions, lonliness sometimes and the heartache we feel for our children that other parents/ family members seem to take for granted sometimes.I signed up and you have my nomination too!!...LOVE AND HUGS
