I have been reading the book Treating Autism: Parent Stories of Hope and Success by Stephen M. Edelson, PH.D. & Bernard Rimland, PH.D.

This book has been amazing in helping me to try new supplements and dietary approaches without consulting my DAN Dr. every time.

Braden has been on the GFCF diet for 3 years, and only recently have we got it down to a science.
This diet has helped greatly improve Braden's ability to focus and to reduce his anxious behaviors. We can certainly tell a huge difference when he gets into something full of gluten or casein.

The supplements we have tried range from Nystatin for yeast overgrowth to B-6, B-12 and Magnesium for calming and focused behaviors.

Get 'The Autism & ADHD Friendly Cookbook' and also 'Treating Autism: Parent Stories of Hope and Success' You'll find you are on your way to being in control of your child's autistic behaviors.

Good luck and have fun on your journey. They grow up too fast and we have to hold on to the fact that our kids are still just kids even when they are battling Autism.

GF CF works! We also removed Soy, Corn and mushrooms. A big thing to remember when doing "the diet" is make sure you buy ALL ORGANIC, this includes juice! Also watching the amount of starch intake can dramatically improve your child's behaviors and speech. Try to use only natural sweeteners [cane juice, stevia] and limit sugars as mush as possible.

I have been taking Kaleb to a DAN since June 2006 and I have seen so many positive changes. I am so grateful that we have a great DAN. I highly recommend going to one though they are not cheap. Just really look into the doctor. Ask questions and ask around. There are some "cookie-cutter" doctors out there so you need to becareful when selecting one. There is a website that lists DAN doctors in different areas..but for some reason it is not working. Here is the website anyway. Perhaps they will have it fixed soon...

Shauna and Logan Comment by Shauna and Logan on May 3, 2008 at 2:12pm
Hello everyone. I'm Shauna. Mommy of 3yr old Logan. Does anyone have their autie on some sort of treatment for yeast overgrowth. I have my little one on threelac and am very happy with the results. Also I would love to find out about DAN doctors and if they are really as good as they are supposed to be. Some people don't see a lot of results. I haven't taken Logan to one yet. If we do, it will be in another city, so I want to know if it will do any good. Thanks for any replies.
