Jesse loves to see the world.. in his time.. he has a very good brain in his head.. oo what he wiil do to get to what he wants.. he will go out a window.. steel the keys from his brother wait for his brother to be in the bathroom and use the key and run to what he wanted to see.. Jesse and I built a swing set fort this summer and he has loved to play on that.. but his new thing is to get out side and go and see Kory that lives next door.. he went to see them and they were not home but they did not lock there front door, yep I looked all around for him.. but after 15 min of looking I have someone go and see if he was in the house and shure he was, after I had the kid call cops.. so the cops did not help but I know my 6year old and my 14 year old know just what to do if I was not there to help, the cop said they did a very good job.. So Kory has told me that they lock there door know.. (scary I do not want to do it again- but I am shure it will happen again) My house I have double key dead bolts and lock boxs in side and out with extra key..
how good ate taking apart is your son?? I used a key chain that will turn into two parts for years he still can not take them apart but will hang on them and brake the ring.. they were up in the doorway so the tall people could use them and he could not.. I hope you figer out what you need to do to keep them safe.. I would love to add any info if you need it.. HUGS Klara

Hi - I read your discussion on running away (but there was nowhere to reply to it) Steven is a runner - he is 10 now and needs 24/7 supervision! If you take your eyes off him he will go! Our back yard is safe for him at the moment - he has loads to play with and has not yet attempted to climb the fence (i think it would be extremely difficult to do anyway!! Especially out of his environment - you need to be holding his hand all the time!! He has even started to unlock the front door and run out that way - so we need to lock and hide keys! I have always taken him to school myself as i worry about people losing him - but he recently started at a new school for children with more severe special needs. They had to get him a special harness for on the bus - but the driver tells me that he has got out of that! Apparently they dont allow the driver and escourt to collect steven from his classroom after school - they wait until they have loaded up the other children - then when the bus doors are locked a teacher will bring steven out so there is not oppertunity for him to run! It is so difficult when your child is big enough to reach handles, locks etc - but has absolutely no sense of danger!!! I know exactly where you are coming from!!!

Welcome !!!!! I am s glad you found this site...I have a 16 year old autistic son, so I do understand the challenges and the emotional aspects of having a special needs child. That's why I set this site up..because the Dad's seem to have been left out when they are just s much a part ot the equasion as the moms.. I have 3 grown children (including my step daughter),My daughter is still like a second mother to my son and is now in school for teach special ed kids.I'm also a grandmother now and I know how I would feel..so I wanted a place for the grandparents too..I hope you enjpy the site and if you have any other quest/concerns do not hesitate to ask..you can customize your page too. By the way there is another Dad already in the group his name is Eric....Hugs..You are just a special as your child !!!
