About Me:
My grandson Eric was diagosed with Autism August. 07 when he was a just shy of 2. My daughter and I share the journey of educating ourselves and family members about Autism. We take great joy in sharing Eric's progress and development with family and friends. He is my heart -- I love him so.
About Your Autistic Family Member:
Eric is my grandson and turned 2 years old on September 27. He was officially Dx a month or two previous to that.
He attends a special pre-school for 2 1//2 hrs per day, where he receives Occupational Therapy and Speech Thereapy. He goes to the class through the Early Intervention Program in our area.
My daugher Nikki is the baby's mommy and his Daddy is Daniel and the are staying with us for a bit. Nik and Daniel were living in Florda when Eric started to receive services and since they had no support or family there, it was decided that Eric's School tx and such would begin here in NY -- long story short -- Nik needed her mommy...LOL! Being only 20 years of age, Eric's dx was frightening and confusing to her. We have been learning together and Nik is such a wonderful teacher for Eric. Eric's daddy Daniel works hard for his little family and helps so much with Eric.
Favorite Thing To Do With Your Autistic Family Member:
I love being outside with Eric -- especially swimming. HIs little face lights up the minute he is outside. He loves to play ball and loves bubbles.
Thing You Hate Most About Autism:
Meltdowns -- and watching Eric's frustration, as well as Nikki's. I would also love to hear Eric speak and say I Love You Mi Ma. (What my grandchildren call me).
Website:
I have a MSN space that I've had for about 3 years. Anyone can visit me there. I joined here to make friends with other grandmothers and family members to share our journey with Eric.

Big day today

Milestones...

We have long dreamed of the day Eric would begin to talk. He only knows a few words right now and mostly they are our names. I'm OohMa, and Grandpa is Pop-pop (he only whispers it, lol), and of course Mama and Dad. He says "what" sporadically and "yeah" sometimes, along with some babbling we are trying to understand. Ooh weeee -- means ? hmmmmmm?

Yesterday my daughter brought home a wall portait she had done (she is a photographer in a studio) of Eric. There is a picture of him and 3 smaller pi… Continue

Hello again -- my space is echoing...

It's been a busy summer so far and looks to be a busy September coming up.
Eric will be changing schools, going from Shonowee which is an integrated two hour program into a more intensive 4 hour program. We are so excited for him and look forward to learning new teaching methods and seeing even more progress for him.

Other than working, alot of our days are spent in the yard with Eric. He LOVES water! I tried to add pictures here but it didn't work for some reason, so I'll go to my main page an… Continue

Updates...

Wow - I can't believe it's been since March since I've added a post. Easter to be exact. Shame on myself.

I really enjoy coming here - reading the blogs, seeing pictures, and meeting new friends. I especially love the "thinking of you" comments from Diana. With so many members she always makes each of us feel special.

Eric is doing well. He was just re-evaluated at his school and will be transitioning into a 4 hour class from a 2 hour. They feel he is more than ready. He still has not started… Continue

Hi Everyone!

So how was everyone's Easter. Mine was great.
We had fun watching Eric try to figure out what was going on and where all the little toys and cookies and such came from (his Easter basket) -- he kept looking at the window where the Christmas tree was and so we figured he thought we were having another Christmas.

Poor little guy had a bit of the stomach flu, but we could tell he had a good time anyway. He is such a finicky eater to begin with and we could not get him to eat barely anything. Somet… Continue

hi Debbie yes nice to have another grandmother to talk to. Joseph has been told he has to come off his meds because of his weight gain so its a very fraught time at the moment as it did seem to keep his violent outbursts down a bit. luckily Joseph and i are very close and i see him every day.looks like our summer over here , what little we had has gone.have a nice week bye for now .

I has 3 kids, my oldest is 14 he is average(Bradley), then my son with autism is 6 years younger(Jesse)last my girl (Destoni) is 2 1/2 years younger then Jesse. The things I missed with my oldest son, you know the little things that Jesse opened my mind to see. Bradley's milestones were fewer because we did not take them step by step. (like for got to smell all the roses thinking the pink smelled like the yellow and why waist the time.) I hope you have a great day. HUGS Klara
