About Your Autistic Family Member:
Kaleb Aidan was born 9/11/02. He was a beautiful baby boy....perfect in everyway. Kaleb began to show signs of autism around 10-12 months of age. He began therapy services at 18 months and was officially diagnosed with moderate autism at the age of 2 1/2, when his brother was 1 week old.
We have gone through many therapies and have done tons of research to try to find any and evryway to help our precious little boy. Kaleb HAS come a long way and continues to make progress.
We have been seeing a DAN! since June 2006 and last October we learned that Kaleb has lead poisoning. His trigger? Not sure but I never stop wondering. Kaleb is currently under going chelation for the lead and is on supplements and vitamins to regulate his levels that we learned back in 2006 were abnormal.
I also have a beautiful little boy named Brendan Adair who was born 4/1/05...just a week before Kaleb was diagnosed. Brendan is NT.
Favorite Thing To Do With Your Autistic Family Member:
Everything.
Thing You Hate Most About Autism:
What is there not to hate? I hate that my son is lost to me and that he is not able to communicate fully with me. I hate that he is not able to do things "normal" children his age are. I hate that he can not comprehend many things and that my son is currently not able to have the life I always dreamed that he would have.....but that will change.

Kindergarten

Kaleb started kindergarten this school year. I am so proud of him.....of where he is heading and the things he has overcome to get him to where he is today. They actually mainstreamed him which is awesome! It would not be possible though if we did not look into ADHD m… Continue

***UPDATE*** Another potty challenge

My son, Kaleb, has been potty-trained for about 1 1/2 years now.....but when I say potty-trained, I do not mean completely. He can be in underwear all day and use the potty to pee but he will not do #2 in there. For that he has to have a pull-up. Also, he wears a pull-up for nap and bedtime. I really want to break him from the pull-ups but I am at a loss on how to accomplish this. I am working on one issue at a time and the first one I am working on is for him not to wear a pull-up for his naps.… Continue

Slap in the face

It is so easy to fall into your daily family routine. After days of smooth sailing....you begin to feel like everything is looking good. The autism almost seems silenced....not completely, I mean my son has autism....you can't deny it but it doesn't seem so bad when days go by and your routine works like a charm....then BAM! Meltdown!
The past 2 morning have been so crazy with meltdowns. It is such a slap in the face after so many great days. I was in tears yesterday because it had just felt lik… Continue

IEP Happy!

You know that phrase, "Slap Happy"? Well....I'm IEP Happy! There is no other way to put it. I'm sure many of you know what a pain it is getting your child's IEP to where you feel it needs to be. And I don't know about you but after the meeting....I walk away feeling like we missed something or something should be different but you can't put your finger on it. Mostly because there was so much information exchanged during the meeting that your mind gets all jumbled. Well, this last week was Kaleb'… Continue

Hi Jamie! Don't feel bad, there are a lot of people that can't make it to the Rally. You are quite a distance out there in Florida. Don't worry we will be your voice out there. Thanks for the comment. Hope you guys are having a good Sunday.
