- About Me:
- I am a 38 yr old, divorced mother to 3 daughters (previous marriage) that are 17, 15, and 13 yrs old. They live with their dad and come down to visit once a month. I have a son who is 5 yrs old. He lives with me full time. He was officially diagnosed at 4 yrs old with Autism.
- About Your Autistic Family Member:
- Its only my son and me! Andrew without knowing it is a comedian. Everywhere Andrew goes he makes people laugh! He brings alot of laughter into my life. At the same time it is a challenge taking care of a child with Autism being a single parent. When my daughters come down, Andrew is focused on his sisters, especially Jessica (my middle daughter). My girls love their brother more than life and would do anything for him. They are very protective over him. They are a tremendous help to me when they visit. Andrew worships the ground they walk on and loves being spoiled/pampered by them. Andrew has 2 brothers and another sister on his dads side. He sees these siblings very little. His dad is not in the picture.
- Favorite Thing To Do With Your Autistic Family Member:
- My daughters and I enjoy all of his characteristics that he has. He just knows how to light up a room with his personality as well as making people laugh.
- Thing You Hate Most About Autism:
- I HATE that I never can carry on a conversation with him. I can never ask him how his school day went. Its very frustrating when he is trying to explain something and I cant understand what he is trying to say. Which makes him very frustrated. He has no sense of danger. Which is extremely scary. The meltdowns and behavior issues that can occur while out in public as well as at home. IGNORANCE from parents of other kids (that arent special needs) family members, etc that dont know what Autism is and how if affects the child and the childs family.

Thankyou to all my new friends.....
I just want to say thankyou for all the wonderful blog comments! Its so nice to know that other people understand the up/downs of everyday life with an Autistic child. It has also been nice to know that there are other single parents out there dealing with the same struggles I do. I am so glad I found this site! Hope everyone had a nice weekend! :)

Hello....
Well it is great to find a site like this! I look forward to meeting other parents that have children with Autism. Being a single parent, there is a significant amount of time where I feel overwhelmed and alone. It can be so exhausting at times, and I wonder how things will be when my son is a teenager and bigger than me.
