About Me:

Grandma of 4 (almost 5). Two boys, two girls, and another boy on the way. They all live entirely too far away from me, so I don't get to see any of them very often, but I love them with all my heart from a distance.

About Your Autistic Family Member:

Logan is 3. He is absolutely adorable. I don't get to see him very often, so any change in his behavior is quite obvious, whether it's a positive change or a negative one. It's hard for him to make eye contact for any period of time, but I believe he's aware of everything I'm saying, and occasionally he will nod to show he understands. That's hard, because it's a little glimpse of the communication that I want so badly with him.

Favorite Thing To Do With Your Autistic Family Member:

Spending time with him, Reading to him. Even though he doesn't appear to be, I know he's listening, because he looks up briefly to see the pictures when it's time, and once in a while I see a little smile when I read something he finds funny. Feeling those little arms around my neck, and seeing the smile on his face when he sees me.

Thing You Hate Most About Autism:

It seems like his little body has him trapped. As though he's in there somewhere, and just can't find his way out, and I don't know how to help him. I'm afraid he may decide he doesn't want to come out, because it's such hard work. It makes me feel helpless.
